Burrillville High School

Burrillville is located in the northwest corner of the State of Rhode Island. It is bound on the north by Massachusetts and on the west by Connecticut. Burrillville was incorporated in 1806. It originally was a manufacturing community with the textile industry being the dominant function. With the decline of the textile industry, the community evolved into a bedroom community for people working in Massachusetts, Connecticut and other parts of Rhode Island. In recent years the town has experienced a surge in population, reaching a total population of approximately 16,000. The new residents have brought new interests and ideas to the town, which is now influencing the town government.

Burrillville High School students are enrolled in 7 credits. The school is operating on a rotating schedule whereby 5 of the 7 classes meet daily in a “drop-2” format. The current enrollment of the high school is approximately 740 students.

Our state-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offer a well-rounded education in five key areas - namely, Construction Management, Environmental Science, PLTW Engineering, Law & Public Safety and PLTW Biomedical Science. Students have the opportunity to work with industry leaders and gain first-hand knowledge in the fields of their choice - both in the classroom and in valuable work-based learning activities. College credits from local post-secondary schools are also available for many CTE courses. For more information, please visit our website at bhs.bsd-ri.net

Duel enrollment indicates enrollment in an AP (where the test is taken) or EEP course.

Burrillville High School is designated as a concurrent enrollment partner of distinction with Rhode Island College.

MARKING SYSTEM:

Grades are reported as numeric grades from 50-100. U represents a grade below 50. M means that the student was absent from class and that the absences affected the grade. Z indicates a course taken for audit purposes only; no grade and no credit. For a very select number of courses, the student may receive a Passing (P) or Failing (F) grade designation.

The chart below is representative of the scale used to weight grades. Each numeric average from 100 to 65 has a weighted equivalent. All grades below 65 receive no credit.
